Doing Good and Doing Well by Jill Malmgren

The Dentist of Distinction Program from National Children's Oral Health Foundation: America's ToothFairy (NCOHF), a non-profit organization supporting oral health education and care for vulnerable children, allows you do good and do well by providing tools for you to highlight your commitment to oral health in your community. Chaired by Dr. Gordon Christensen and sponsored by Wells Fargo Practice Finance, this program recognizes caring dental professionals for their support of America's ToothFairy programs helping children in need.

It feels good to help others. There is no denying it, giving back can feel great! This good feeling can extend farther than you realize and ultimately benefit your practice.

Differentiate your practice. Patients select their dental provider based on what they know about them. Marketing materials provided to Dentists of Distinction can enhance your reputation and generate positive publicity for your practice. Press releases, social media content, material for your website and patient newsletters are designed to help position you as a caring dental professional and resource for oral health services in your community. Current and new patients can feel good about choosing you as their dentist.

Raise awareness of your services. Dentists of Distinction also receive an America's ToothFairy Community Education Kit. Using these engaging oral health lessons, you or a member of your staff can raise awareness of your services while providing valuable information to members of your community in schools, local events, health fairs or children's programs.

Build your brand. Build your brand identity and connect with potential patients by distributing cards with your practice logo and information offering free membership for the America's ToothFairy Kids Club at community events. Share this free service with current patients and their families to build loyalty to your practice.

Give your team a sense of pride. Your team will be proud to be associated with a Dentist of Distinction and practice that has a reputation for giving back. Dr. Chris Woolaver, a Dentist of Distinction who provides volunteer services through the Tomorrow's Smiles program noted: "Being able to help teens in need by providing donated services through America's ToothFairy has been rewarding for both me and my staff. I am glad to be able to have a positive impact on the lives of these remarkable kids."

Making an impact on others matters to your employees. As employees of a practice that demonstrates social responsibility, they will be more committed to your success because they are working for an organization that is making a difference, above and beyond "just a paycheck." In addition to aiding in the retention of quality, caring staff, strategic giving and aligning with this cause can also help attract conscientious employees who seek to work for practices that are also good corporate citizens.

Engage your community. As a Dentist of Distinction, you can rally your team, patients and others around a shared passion that everyone can relate to, helping children, while elevating the importance of oral health and the services you provide. Dentists of Distinction receive:
  • Practice building program, including press releases, videos, content for social media and patient newsletters
  • Community Education Kit for use in schools and local outreach activities
  • Certificate of Appreciation for display
  • Online recognition as an America's ToothFairy Dentist of Distinction with optional link to your website
  • Free membership for the America's ToothFairy Kids Club to offer patients and their families. Members receive fun, educational activities and quarterly personalized letters from the ToothFairy! Encourage them to sign up at AmericasToothFairyKids.org!

With the help of these practice-building tools, your contribution can have a powerful impact and enable patients to consistently identify you with oral health causes.
